On Dec. 1, 2015, Life Care’s Eastern Division held a banquet at the company’s headquarters in Cleveland, Tennessee, bestowing honors on one skilled nursing and rehab facility per each of its five regions. The awards recognize facilities for innovative programs in serving their communities.
The facility was nominated for its “Go Red: A Girls’ Day Out” event held in February 2015. Coté Stepteau designed the event to help educate women in the community about heart disease, the No. 1 killer of women in the United States.
Dr. Sofia Zaman, the on-site physician at Life Care Center of Lawrenceville, spoke to the group about the disease and answered an array of questions. Attendees also enjoyed heavy hors d’oeuvres and dark chocolate desserts.
“The information is beneficial and widely available, though somehow we as a nation do not recognize heart disease in women as a serious killer,” said Stepteau. “This event, as with other ones, was a way for us to educate people while having fun.”
About the award, Stepteau added, “Being recognized for something that you enjoy is just the best!”
